John 2:1-11
Lent begins… at a party? In the Gospel of John, Jesus’ very first sign isn’t a healing or a showdown with injustice—it’s turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana. Abundant. Playful. Completely unexpected. At the start of this Lenten journey, we’re reminded that the good news of God isn’t small, scarce, or stingy. It overflows. It surprises. It refuses to let emptiness have the final word. In a world burdened by bad news, can we become “good news” people? People grounded in radical welcome, love of neighbor, care for the vulnerable, and joy that resists despair? This week, look for God in the ordinary. Expect abundance where you assumed scarcity. Don’t be surprised if grace shows up where you least expect it. The good news is better than we imagine—and it just might catch you by surprise.
